The BOWE2H project aims to strengthen transnational cooperation in offshore wind energy and hydrogen production in the Baltic Sea region.
Background
The Baltic Sea region has the potential to make a significant contribution to the further expansion of offshore wind energy and thus to the achievement of the EU climate targets. Regional cooperation is crucial for the efficient development of a climate-friendly energy infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. A regional perspective is needed, for example, to build sufficient interconnectors to distribute offshore electricity throughout the Baltic Sea region or to strategically plan electrolysis sites to decarbonize other sectors with the green hydrogen. Through a regional, coordinated approach, the Baltic Sea region can become independent of energy imports.
Project Activities
The Interreg project BOWE2H aims to promote transnational cooperation and exchange on offshore wind energy and hydrogen production in the Baltic Sea region. The goal of the BOWE2H project is to achieve closer networking between relevant stakeholders in the Baltic Sea region. The project brings together policy makers, industry leaders, grid operators, planners and experts from the offshore wind and hydrogen sectors in a common platform. Through events and co-creative workshops, BOWE2H will foster the necessary transnational exchange to work towards a sustainable energy system in the Baltic Sea Region, with offshore wind and green hydrogen at its core.
The knowledge exchanged and generated at the events and workshops will be documented and supplemented by interviews. This information will be incorporated into an infographic roadmap report that captures the status quo of offshore wind and green hydrogen and illustrates their future development potential for the Baltic Sea Region. In addition, the roadmap illustrates the barriers to unlocking this potential and identifies measures and solutions to overcome them and achieve an integrated, low-carbon energy landscape in the Baltic Sea Region.
Project Period and Funding
The project has a duration of 24 months years (October 2022 - September 2024) and is co-financed within the EU funding program Interreg Baltic Sea Region.
