  New video on PROMOTioN project in the North Sea

  The new video "PROMOTioN in a nutshell" visualizes the work of the EU-funded research project PROMOTioN, which the FOUNDATION OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY is involved with. Within this project 33 partners from 11 countries analyze the positive effects of the development of a common offshore power grid infrastructure, in particular on the basis of meshed high-voltage direct-current transmission technology (HVDC).

  Study by Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy finds significant increase in employment in the Renewable Energy Sector in 2016 – 27,200 employees in Offshore-Wind Sector

  A recent study, that was comissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, found a significant increase in employment within the field of renewable energies. According to the study 338,600 people were employed in this field in 2016, displaying an increase of 10,000 employees compared to the previous year. The offshore wind energy sector even saw its total number of employees rise to 27,200, which equals an increase of 20 %.

  EU-Project PROMOTioN: Mid-term Conference on 6 June 2018 in Amsterdam

  The EU-funded project PROMOTioN, in which the Foundation OFFSHORE WIND ENERGY is a project partner, will host its mid-term conference “PROMOTioN – Shaping a meshed HVDC offshore grid for the Northern Seas - First findings on grid concepts, technological innovations and barriers ” on 6 June 2018 in Amsterdam. The conference will give representatives from politics and industry the opportunity to discuss the project’s interim results.

  Energy transition to be accelerated – Expansion of offshore wind energy up to 2020 progressing according to plan

  “With a total output capacity of more than 5.3 GW, offshore wind turbines make an increasing contri-bution to the security of Germany’s energy supply. They deliver clean power almost around the clock, every day of the year,” industry representatives from AGOW, the BWE, the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation, VDMA Power Systems and the WAB explained in Berlin during the presentation of the latest expansion figures for offshore wind energy. “The expansion of offshore wind energy is run-ning to plan.”

  Iberdrola successfully installs all 70 wind turbines at the Wiking offshore wind farm

  Iberdrola has announced that it has successfully completed the construction of all 70 wind turbines at the Wikinger offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The wind turbines of type AD 5-135 were installed by Adwen and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

  Baltic Sea Declaration signed in Tallinn

  On the fringe of the EUFORES 17th Inter-Parliamentary Meeting on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Tallinn, WindEurope and the national wind energy associations of the Baltic Sea states have signed the Baltic Sea Declaration. For Germany the German Offshore Wind Energy Foundation has signed the Declaration.

  Arnhem/Berlin, 21 September 2017. On 11.09.2017, SCiBreak became the 35th project partner of the PROMOTioN consortium. SCiBreak is a Swedish company founded in 2014 to commercialise new technology for interrupting electric current.

  Cuxhaven Appeal 2.0 - Northern German states and offshore wind sector call for increased offshore capacity

  Economic and energy ministers of several northern German states are calling on the federal government to facilitate the deployment of offshore wind energy.Ministers and senators from Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hamburg and Bremen have presented the Cuxhaven Appeal 2.0 in conjunction with industry representatives.

  UK offshore auction results: Cost reductions of more than 50 percent

  The offshore wind projects Triton Knoll (860 MW), Hornsea Project 2 (1386 MW) and Moray Offshore Windfarm East (950 MW) are the winners of the second British auction round based on the Contracts for Difference (CfD) principle. Together the three projects will provide 3.2 GW of new capacity in the UK, enough to power 3.3 million homes by 2023.

  Offshore wind energy: Two new offshore wind farms come online - Capacity expansion is essential

  In the first half of 2017, 108 offshore wind turbines with a combined capacity of 626MW fed power into Germany's national grid for the first time. Therefore as of 30 June 2017 a total of 1,055 offshore wind turbines with a total capacity to 4,749MW are on the grid. These are encouraging half-year figures, according to Arbeitsgemeinschaft Offshore-Windenergie (AGOW), Bundesverband WindEnergie (BWE), Stiftung OFFSHORE-WINDENERGIE, VDMA Power Systems and WAB e.V. The industry expects a total increase of approximately 900MW for 2017 as a whole. In the first half of 2017, offshore wind energy produced 8,480GWh of electricity, already roughly 70% of last year's total output.
