  On June 20^th, the Board of Trustees elected Dr. Ursula Prall as the new Chair of the Executive Board of the Foundation at the 24^th Board of Trustees meeting in Hannover. The promoted lawyer began her honorary function on July 1^st.

  Joint statement by European government representatives and the offshore wind industry in London

  On June 6, representatives of the Belgian, Danish and German governments, as well as representatives of the European wind energy industry signed a joint statement at the Offshore Wind Energy 2017 Conference in London. In the statement the signatories are committed to an ambitious offshore expansion by 2030 and to further advance regional cooperation in the field of offshore wind energy.

  Bundesnetzagentur publishes auction results

  The Bundesnetzagentur published the results of its first auction for offshore wind energy projects on 13 April 2017. The dramatically reduced prices of these bids, maxing at 6.0 cents per kilowatt-hour, primarily reflect the rapidly falling costs in the industry, resulting from industrialization and a steeper learning curve. A majority of the projects chosen today are to be realized with no financial support at all; the lowest bid selected came in at 0.0 cents per kilowatt-hour. This means that due to the future expansion of offshore wind farms, electricity customers will hardly need to pay for any additional EEG-funded support for new offshore wind farms after 2020.

  North Seas Energy Forum on the 23rd of March in Brussels

  In June 2016, the North Seas Energy Cooperation was launched with the signing of a political declaration by the ten energy minister from German, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the United Kingdom. On the 23^rd of March, the initiative organized its first stakeholder event in Brussels within framework of the “North Seas Energy Forum” with over 200 participants from the industry and associations. The primary objectives of this cooperation are the cost-efficient expansion of offshore wind energy and the further interconnection of the North Seas countries.

  In 2015 the offshore and onshore wind energy industries had a total of more the 143,000 direct and indirect jobs in Germany and generated more than 13 Billion Euros.   WindEurope today published the latest expansion figures for offshore wind energy in 2016: Europe installed 1.6 GW of new offshore wind energy in 2016 with cumulative capacity now reaching 12.6 GW.
