Live web demonstration of an 80 kV VSC-supported HVDC circuit breaker
A web-based performance verification test on a prototype of a three-module SCiBreak VARC HVDC circuit breaker will take place on August 19 as part of the EU research project PROMOTioN to demonstrate the technological readiness for use in meshed offshore HVDC networks.
HVDC circuit breakers will play an important role in the realisation of a safe and stable multi-terminal meshed HVDC network. Various technology concepts have been developed by manufacturers, but so far no HVDC circuit breakers have been installed in Europe, so operational experience is limited.
