Iberdrola successfully installs all 70 wind turbines at the Wiking offshore wind farm

Iberdrola has announced that it has successfully completed the construction of all 70 wind turbines at the Wikinger offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea. The wind turbines of type AD 5-135 were installed by Adwen and Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

The Wikinger offshore wind farm is a flagship project for Iberdrola, which committed €1.4 billion to the wind farm located off the north-eastern coast of the German island of Rügen. The offshore wind park will supply some 350,000 German households with clean energy, representing more than 20% of the energy demand in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the region where the wind farm is located. It will generate clean energy equivalent to avoiding the emission of 600,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

With the final cable laying works currently being carried out by the transmission system operator 50Hertz, the offshore wind farm is set to be commissioned by the end of the year.
